Yohji Yamamoto’s Interview
Yamamoto-san, you launched Y’s bis LIMI with the Fall/Winter 2000 collection, and Limi Feu with the Fall/Winter 2002 collection. What kind of brand did you want to create when you first launched the brand? สล็อต888
Yamamoto : It’s been 20 years since Y’s bis LIMI…time flies (laughs). When I first started Y’s bis LIMI, I just couldn’t accept the Y’s name. To be honest, it was a constant source of pressure, considering my mental age at the time and my existing customers. สล็อตเว็บตรง
After two years of launching under the name Y’s bis LIMI, I changed the brand name to “Limi Feu” and, with a fresh start, have been working hard to create clothes that I love, clothes that I want to wear, and clothes that I would want others to wear.
I imagine that maintaining a brand for 20 years is no easy feat. What do you think is the secret to your continued success?
Yamamoto : In the category of designer brands, I think it’s important that the designer’s own ideas are consistent throughout, that is, that they don’t waver. When I first started the brand, I didn’t think about that at all, but looking back now, I think the most important thing is to have a core way of thinking and working.
How do you come up with ideas for each season?
Yamamoto : Rather than searching for ideas myself, they come to me naturally.
When you say they come to me naturally…?
Yamamoto : I suddenly see something and think, “That’s nice.” I might keep it in mind afterwards, but then forget about it when I return to my daily life. But then, by chance, someone else might show me that “nice” idea. I’m the type of person who, when something that’s been bothering me comes to me by chance, thinks, “Oh, I should turn this into clothing.”
Finally, please tell us about your future plans for Limi Feu.
Yamamoto : If my staff can enjoy their work, that’s enough for me.
Of course I want to grow the brand, but I also want to keep it within my reach. Quantity leads to a decline in quality, so I would like to maintain the status quo and continue making high-quality clothes.
As we’re talking, I’m realizing that this way of thinking isn’t really suited to a business owner (laughs). For me, as long as all my staff can work with a smile on their faces and make great products, there’s nothing more I could ask for.
